Marion’s journey began with her role as the founding Executive Director of the Australian Association of Philanthropy, now known as Philanthropy Australia. Her vision was instrumental in shaping the future of philanthropy in Australia. Her subsequent work with ANZ Trustees and the ANZ Bank further highlighted her commitment to charitable giving and corporate responsibility.
Beyond her professional roles, Marion made significant contributions to various sectors through her board positions, spanning welfare, the arts, medical research, and community philanthropy. Her expertise in governance and efficiency was a guiding light for many organisations.
Marion was also the Inaugural Chair of WomenCAN Australia, a role in which she championed the advancement and empowerment of women. Through Marion’s leadership, almost 1,000 women have gained employment, with many also taking advantage of training to help them secure their futures. Her leadership in this capacity reflected her unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for women and fostering a supportive community.
Her passion for empowering others was evident in her co-founding of Fitted for Work, which helps disadvantaged women secure meaningful employment. She also established Kilfinan Australia, a mentoring service for CEOs of purpose-driven organisations. Her efforts were crucial in the creation and growth of the Australian Communities Foundation, where she played a key role in expanding its funds to over $110 million.
Marion’s dedication was formally recognised in 2004 when she was awarded an OAM for her services to philanthropy and the community. Her contributions were further honoured when she was elevated to a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the January 2023 Australia Day Honours’ List, “for significant service to the community, to the philanthropy sector, and to women.”
Her legacy is marked by her profound impact, her unwavering commitment to improving lives, and her dedication to advancing the causes she cared deeply about.
