Together we Opened Doors for Talia’s Career Change

When Talia began rethinking her future, she knew something was missing. “I was really thinking about how I wanted my personal and work life to look,” Talia says. “I wanted something different—something more meaningful.” That turning point led her to WomenCAN Australia.

Finding a New Path

While exploring free TAFE options, Talia discovered WomenCAN Australia and their traineeship model—a pathway that allows women to ‘Earn & Learn”. It was exactly what she needed.

“What really appealed to me was being able to step straight into a role and see if it was right for me,” she explains. “Instead of studying for a year and then hoping it was the right fit, I was gaining real experience from day one.”

With support from WomenCAN Australia, Talia secured an Aged Care Traineeship with Mount Alexander Shire Council.

From the beginning, WomenCAN Australia helped remove barriers that often hold women back from changing careers. They connected her to the opportunity and supported her through the application process ensuring she could start with confidence.

Learning, Earning and Growing

Talia spent two years completing her traineeship and working as an In-Home Care Worker, balancing hands-on work with structured learning alongside a cohort of other trainees.

“That support network was incredibly valuable,” she says. “We were all coming from different backgrounds, but we were learning and experiencing everything together.”

Working one-on-one with clients in their homes was a completely new experience—and one that quickly confirmed she was on the right path.

“I really loved it from early on,” Talia says. “Every person has such a unique story. Being able to support them in their day-to-day lives and build those relationships—it’s incredibly rewarding work.”

The traineeship not only built her practical skills but also gave her a strong foundation in the aged care sector—knowledge that would soon open new doors.

A Career Transformation

Today, Talia has stepped into a new role as an In-Home Support Coordinator, working with a team of Personal Care Workers and helping deliver services across the community.

It’s a significant career shift—from corporate leadership roles to community-based care—but one that reflects both her experience and her passion.

“This traineeship opened up a whole new industry for me,” she says. “It’s been such a fantastic change, and now it’s creating opportunities for ongoing career growth as well.”

Her dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. During her traineeship, Talia was nominated for Trainee of the Year—recognition of both her commitment and impact.

The Power of the Right Support

For Talia, the journey is a clear example of what’s possible when women are given the right opportunity at the right time.

“WomenCAN Australia helped me take that first step,” she says. “They made it easier to move into something completely new.”

And her message to other women considering a career change?

“I couldn’t recommend a traineeship more. You’re earning from day one, gaining real experience, and building skills as you go. It’s such a practical and supportive way to change careers.”

Creating Lasting Impact

Talia’s story is more than a career change—it’s a life change. Today, she’s part of a workforce that supports older Australians to live independently, building meaningful relationships and making a tangible difference every day.

With the support of WomenCAN Australia, she didn’t just find a new job—she found a new direction.

Congratulations Talia on your successful career shift into Aged Care.
